Part I -- Descriptions of the Town

In the middle of a clear day, the sun was hidden , and our native home -Antipolia - was captured by the Germans.

It suits to remind the field PAHANIE. There was a time in that the PAHANIE served us as a defense wall. For the Jews and the gentiles, the PAHANIE was part of the common yard.

The landowner was Voitash. The Jews and the gentiles paid - until year 1914- a tax to the landowner, for the houses and the fields. In the time of the war of 1914 the yard was transferred to the hands of a Christian family, the Gurens. Then the tax was paid to the Gurens.

The PAHANIE occupied a surface of some 2000 " dunam " and was used for shepherding of horses and cows. They were not fields for agriculture. Of course, the cows and the horses of the gentiles didn't shepherd together with the cows and horses of the Jews.

The length of the PAHANIE went from the gutters of Zalever Way until Zanivier Way, a lot after Yonah the miller. The width of the PAHANIE went from the houses of the town to the gutters of Zalever. These gutters were the limit of the yard of Zalever and the fields of the town.

The landowner of the Zalever yard was a "kniazsh" in the Russian "nesudarstva".  His wife took walks in the yard.

The gutters were deep. Sometimes when they had water came people to take a bath or to fish.

In times of the war, when Russian army returned from the battle front, the inhabitants of the city were very afraid and they ran to take refuge in the gutters of the PAHANIE.  This was the only defense wall and it was far from the city. They were there some days and nights. The city burned. By the light of the fire it was seen how the soldiers retired from the battlefront, and in the city they were few people.

Many houses were bought by people that had the luck to have money. Many families were without roof. All those whose houses were razed by the fire and the homeless were located in the villages of the gentiles. They were in charge of sowing and they seated there up to 1917. The city was reconstructed again, and each one returned to his place.

FRATERNAL SEPULCHRE

The fraternal sepulchre of the Jews of Antiplia, those that the Nazi annihilated in the year 1942, is near the villiage of Farshichvast that limits with the two last houses of Pinsker Street. Farshichvast is located at 1/4 of wiorst (a wiorst is equal to little more than a kilometer) farther from the houses of the city. This was the last stage for Jews from Antipolia. It is not any more. A deep pain is with us

In the time from the war in 1914 there was in our small town Antipolia many fires. They left in flames the house of Gideliah the shames (sexton),  the chassidic shtibl (prayerhouse) and the houses around the shtible.  Gideliah took refuge in the slaughterhouse.  Russian army and Polish army fought beside the river beach. This river runs near the city of Haradets. The sharpnel flew on both sides. Shrapnel  fell in the slaughterhouse and tore from Gideliah the right hand.

The tragedy of our native home Antipolia in the ferocious past, happened when the hitlerist beasts annihilated our best and those most dear to us.

The last action was the 4 of Heshvan 5702 (1942) [error, it was 5703] in the ghetto that was in the yard of the synogogue, also in the Talmud Torah, and also in Kavkazer Street which was on the side from Rushover Street till the western end with Rushover Street by the corner from Shimeon Rubinstein's house, that closes in the Zaliver  Way and it cuts from Kobriner Street to Zaliver Way. In Rushover Street from market was Yussel Shmuel's wall  and of the other side from Nachum Valiniets' house.  Continues on Rushover Street in front of the yard of the synagogue, until that of Getzl Goldberg, the blacksmith. Yudel Goldberg was on the other side. All these streets included the Ghetto.

The whole population was pushed brutally by the German, including this neighborhood that was replete of aching, lost, destroyed persons and hopeless families. The Germans took out of the ghetto a great part of the Jews, women and children and tossed to the forest Braneh Gurer that was beside the train station Gasaveh and Kartuz-Bereza. There the Germans annihilated them brutally.

REMEMBER AND DON'T FORGET

In town was 10 streets:

Kobriner Street -- Pinsker Street -- Roshever Street -- Kavkazer Street -- Castle Street -- Zanivyer Street -- Katlarskeh Street --
the street that goes around from Kobriner Street to the common yard, it goes besides the street from Chasidik stibl over Shmuel the shoemaker --
Egypt Street is in two sides: number 1 to number 2.  Many small streets unite, one with the other.
In this small city there was 439 Jewish houses. The Jewish population was of approximately 3000 people. They also had Jewish families that didn't have their own house.  About15% was gentile and their housings were in lateral streets of the city. In gentile streets also lived Jewish families.

The fraternal Jewish town of Antepolie is empty of Jews, its goods were in the gentile hands. It last a deep pain until the soul, a deep thirst of vengeance.  We will never forget our great pain that our dear Antepolie no longer exist with it's Jewish population.
